Isabel's Climate Story
Title
Isabel's Climate Story
Name
Isabel
Place
Monterrey, Mexico
How are you sensing climate change?
Nestled in the desert of the Sierra Madre mountain range, Monterrey sometimes reaches below-freezing temperatures. Winter there means running the minisplit heater every night, huddling under blankets and multiple layers during the day. The second winter I was home from college in New England, I braced myself for the return to this routine—so different from the consistent comfort of campus. However, temperatures barely dropped below 60 degrees Fahrenheit / 15 degrees Celsius that holiday season. When I returned to a snowless campus in February, the next week my sister sent me a picture of snow from our backyard—a sight unseen. I feel concerned for those who can't deal with this change as more than a nuisance.
